According to the USGS, the earthquake struck about 8:15 p.m. local time on Wednesday, about 46 kilometers (25 miles) beneath the sea’s surface (US seismological observatory).
There were at least two more aftershocks, one of which had a magnitude larger than 6, which causes damage in more densely populated areas.
The tremor, however, occurred near sparsely populated areas. The most concerning situation is in Perryville, a small town only 91 kilometers from the epicenter. Anchorage is Alaska’s largest city.
Prayer for Ecology and Creation
Lord, we praise and thank you for the beauty and goodness of your Creation. Help us to maintain a reverent attitude toward nature, which is under attack from all sides nowadays, so that we can fully restore it to the status of brother/sister and to its role of usefulness to all humanity for the glory of God the Creator. We pray that people everywhere become more concerned about the environment in which they live, and that politicians, planners, and developers take environmental concerns seriously when making decisions.
We thank You for the Blessings we have received at this time in our lives, and we ask that Your will be done in the name of Jesus Christ, for the glory of God, in His Holy Name and Power. Amen.
